The Ophthalmology Department is dedicated to promoting ocular trauma care services through integrated professional care, case management, comprehensive assessment, and intervention. By strengthening the specialized care processes for ocular trauma, we aim to enhance related services and research development. Under the supervision of the Ophthalmology Department, we have established the Ocular Trauma Center (OTC) as a task force. This center aims to elevate the standards of clinical care, academic research quality, and educational achievements, ultimately advancing towards internationalization.

Ocular trauma resulting in visual impairment or loss not only affects an individual's daily life but also imposes significant economic burdens and psychological stress on patients and their families. Currently, several medical centers in countries such as the United States and Europe have established ocular trauma centers. Endoscopic-assisted intraocular surgery is a critical and essential surgical technique for treating severe ocular trauma. The Ophthalmology Department at Taichung Veterans General Hospital has achieved internationally recognized excellence in the development of endoscopic-assisted intraocular surgery. Our "New Hope for Vision Restoration - Endoscopic-assisted Intraocular Surgery" has been certified by the National Development Council for Medical Quality. Therefore, our hospital possesses significant advantages in developing specialized ocular trauma care. With a well-organized and comprehensive subspecialty team in the Ophthalmology Department, we provide round-the-clock ophthalmic services and are recognized as a referral center for ocular trauma in the central region. The establishment of this center will further consolidate ocular trauma patients' referrals to our hospital for high-quality ocular trauma care.

Ocular trauma cases vary in complexity, and treating each challenging or complex ocular trauma patient requires the integration of expertise from various ophthalmic subspecialties and advanced medical equipment. The collaborative integration within this center aims to achieve excellence in three aspects:  "medical service, teamwork, and doctor-patient communication".
