Our department handles the responsibilities of a Level I resuscitation hospital in Taichung City, as well as serving as the base hospital in the Taichung-Miaoli Transfer Network. We are committed to providing high quality emergency medical care in central Taiwan.
There are a total of 17 board-certified emergency physicians, including two specialists in clinical toxicology, two in disaster medicine and 8 traumatologists in our department. The department is also a recognized training hospital for emergency medicine residency, where 10 residents can be accomodated in the program. In addition to the physicians, the Emergency Department (ED) is supported by 100 registration nurses and 7 nursing practitioners who assist in providing fast and efficient emergency services. The service has an average annual volume of 68,000 ED visits, of which approximately 20-25% of the patients are Level 1 or 2, according to the Taiwan Triage and Acuity Scale (TTAS). This hospital is the only public referral medical center in central Taiwan. About one-tenth of the patients are referred to us from other hospitals, and one-third of the patients need to be admitted to the wards or intensive care units.
The ED has a well-designed resuscitation room, treatment area, and observing wards to provide high-quality emergency medical care. The ED is also equipped with emergency X-ray facilities, portable X-ray machines, full-time computerized tomography scan, high quality ultrasounds, and other equipment for various emergency illnesses.
