President Lai of Taiwan Praises Taichung Veterans General Hospital for Its Well-earned Achievements.

On August 9, 2024, President Ching-te Lai visited Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) to inspect the progress the medical center has been making in the field of smart healthcare. President Lai was amazed by how the hospital has integrated AI, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), and automation technologies to better enhance medical efficiency. President Lai pointed out that TCVGH is the country's leader in various fields, including smart, cutting-edge, precision, and regenerative medicine, as well as being a leader in Asia and globally as well. President Lai believes that the medical center can serve as a benchmark for all hospitals nationwide.

President Lai then went on to emphasize that we are now in a global-era of smart technology, and that the current primary task is to transform Taiwan into a "smart nation." To help achieve the goal of improving the health and well-being of the people, a concept known as "Healthy Taiwan," it will be necessary to have it built upon the development and implementation of smart healthcare. The fulfillment of this mission will aid in leading the country forward, while it aligns itself with the current international standards. Taiwan's leader also mentioned that the "Healthy Taiwan Action Alliance" includes ten initiatives in next year's budget, including the Cancer New Drug Fund, funding to ensure a three-shift nurse-patient ratio, and night shift bonuses, all of which lay a solid foundation for the sustainable development of National Health Insurance.

Taichung Veterans General Hospital has established smart wards, digital nursing, telemedicine, a command center, a fully automated intelligent laboratory, a CAR-T laboratory, and AI-assisted screening and diagnosis facilities, all of which enhance the efficiency and quality of patient care. Minister of Health and Welfare Tai-Yuan Chiu praised the hospital's strong software and hardware capabilities in smart healthcare, saying that it is on par with international standards. Hospital Superintendent Shih-Ann Chen responded to the Minister by saying that all hospital staff are striving to ensure the sustainability of a Healthy Taiwan.
