A New Chapter in Interdisciplinary Dialogue: TCVGH Engages in a Smart Healthcare Exchange with Hanoi Law University and Tunghai University
On June 4, Taichung Veterans General Hospital (TCVGH) had the honor of welcoming a delegation of professors from Hanoi Law University in Vietnam and the Department of Law at Tunghai University. The visit facilitated a rich and in-depth interdisciplinary academic exchange. The delegation was received by Vice Superintendent Dr. Yuan-Hua Chou, who offered firsthand insights into the core operational models of the hospital's smart healthcare system and initiated forward-looking discussions on the integration of medical practice and legal frameworks.
The first stop of the visit was TCVGH’s W34 Smart Ward, where the guests observed patient-centered spatial design and the operation of intelligent care systems. The delegation expressed particular interest in the role of nursing robots in supporting clinical workflows. This area showcases the harmonious integration of advanced technology and patient-centric care, with significant potential for application and development.
The tour continued to the fully automated smart laboratory, which features seamless and contactless integration of pre-analytical processes, including patient identification, blood collection, specimen transportation, testing, and cold storage. The lab supports multiple testing modules—including biochemistry, immunology, hematology, coagulation, and HbA1c—substantially enhancing testing efficiency and quality control. It sets a new benchmark in smart medical diagnostics.
Next, the delegation visited the Telemedicine Center, where they explored how TCVGH leverages digital technology to overcome geographical barriers. The center’s capabilities extend to remote and underserved areas, as well as international medical services, enabling real-time consultations, remote image interpretation, and multilingual communication mechanisms. The discussion also covered digital health policies and relevant legal regulations.
At the Advanced Imaging Center, the hospital showcased cutting-edge diagnostic equipment, such as photon-counting CT, high-end computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). These technologies are critically important in clinical diagnostics as they deliver high-resolution and efficient imaging services, enhancing early disease detection and precision treatment planning.
This visit deepened the delegation’s understanding of real-world medical operations and fostered meaningful dialogue and collaboration at the intersection of medical technology development and the legal system. We sincerely thank the professors from Hanoi Law University and Tunghai University for their visit and invaluable insights. We look forward to strengthening international cooperation between the medical and legal fields and jointly advancing smart healthcare and legal safeguards.
