We have doctors who specialize in the fields of neurological rehabilitation, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, pediatric rehabilitation and orthopedic rehabilitation. Through comprehensive rehabilitation programs, patients could recover and return to previous quality of life as soon as possible.
Neurological rehabilitation
Patients with central nervous system diseases such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease, and peripheral neuropathy such as facial palsy and carpal tunnel syndrome can gradually improve their functions through our delicate physical therapy and occupational therapy. Swallowing disability or speech disorders such as aphasia or dysarthria can also be treated by our experienced speech therapists. Besides, we provide the novel therapy of intravascular laser irradiation of blood to help the recovery process of neurological diseases.
Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
Individualized exercise rehabilitation programs were tailored to patients with cardiopulmonary diseases, such as coronary artery disease, status post open heart surgery, valvular heart diseases, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Cardiopulmonary exercise tests are performed before exercise prescriptions to ensure patients’ safety and the training programs could be adjusted according to the results of cardiopulmonary exercise test.
Pediatric rehabilitation
Rehabilitation programs are provided for children with developmental delay, cerebral palsy, torticollis, flat foot or leg discrepancy, etc. Developmental assessment for children including gross motor function, fine motor function, language, cognition, and social interaction are addressed here to facilitate early intervention of comprehensive preschool rehabilitation programs.
Orthopedic rehabilitation
Musculoskeletal limitations due to pain, inflammation, joints contracture or post-operative status can be resolved through our delicate rehabilitative therapy or injection techniques. Therapeutic approaches include physical modalities, shockwaves, manual manipulation, exercise, postural correction and orthotics.
Ultrasound-guided injections
Musculoskeletal ultrasound examination can provide accurate diagnosis in clinics for most soft tissue problems. Ultrasound-guided injections to muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints can alleviate pain and treat different conditions. Common types of regimen include steroid solution to inhibit acute inflammation, prolotherapy with platelet-rich plasma/dextrose water to modify chronic inflammatory response and promote healing process, and botulinum toxin for spasticity from neurological disorders.
Intravascular laser irradiation of blood
Intravenous Laser Irradiation of Blood (ILIB) has been established to enhance rheological properties of the blood, improve microcirculation and reduce the area of cerebral infarction. Besides, ILIB is also evidenced to deal with chronic musculoskeletal pain and insomnia effectively.
We provide training programs for physiatrists, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists. Members in our department work closely as an interdisciplinary team. Medical students in their observership, internship as well as doctors in their post-graduate-year training programs can all have opportunities to cultivate their knowledge and get insights into the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation in our department.
