Introduction
Taichung Veterans General Hospital was founded in September, 1982 as Veterans General Hospital – Taichung Branch. Initially, all the radiologists in the department of Radiology were from Taipei VeteransGeneral Hospital. After many years’ efforts, the department is now recognized as being at the cutting edge of diagnostic imaging and interventional examination/therapy in central Taiwan. In 2002, a hospital-wide filmless system (using the picture archiving and communication system, PACS) was established, ushering in a new era of diagnostic imaging in this hospital.
The department has 21 specialized radiologists, 16 residents and 57 technologists, as of 2016. It is divided into 7 divisions: Interventional Radiology, Cardiopulmonary Radiology, Abdominal Radiology, Neuroradiology, Pediatric & Emergency Radiology, Musculoskeletal Radiology and Ultrasonography. Each division is under the leadership of a radiologist specializing in one of the subspecialty areas, providing specialized and accurate medical service.
The department provides a wide range of diagnostic services, which include plain film, ultrasonography, CT, MRI, mammography, bone density and interventional examination/therapy. Approximately 455,000 studies are performed per year.
An excellent training program has been implemented in the department. In addition to providing diagnostic examinations, training is offered for residents, interns and trainees from this hospital, as well as radiologists and technologists from other hospitals.
