Introduction

Division of Clinical Toxicology is established on July 1998. Poisoned events are needed to consult professional toxicologists to provide information for clinical management of poisoned patients. The Ministry of Health and Welfare establish this center since the 911 terrorist attacks in the United States in 1900. Our Division is the Poison Control Center in Taichung, providing services of toxicological consultation and having a clinical toxicology laboratory for examination of drugs and toxins. The division has the following major tasks:Clinical: to take care poisoned patients in emergency department, provide toxicological consultation and counseling, and follow up poisoned patients through occupational medicine clinics.Teaching: give lectures of clinical toxicology for PGY residents monthly, acute poisoning life support (AILS) and practice of chemical toxicological disaster for emergency residents to enhance their ability to deal with poisoned patients. Study: toxicology relevant papers published and institutional research project cooperated with universities in Taichung and other areas.laboratory service: the only public clinical toxicology laboratory in central Taiwan to provide basic drugs screen, abuse screen, pesticide (organophosphate and paraquat ), Volatiles Screen, Solvent metabolites, heavy metals, cyanide and other special toxin tests. By laboratory accreditation of TAF ISO 15189, we provide better services.Instruments:Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis, Fluor)Biochemistry AnalyzerAtomic AnalyzerHS-GC-FIDLC-ICP-MSLC-MSMSSocial responsibility: assist investigation of major poisoned events and rescue human life, such as investigation of chemical explosion accident, poison-related consultation and identification of court; organize and integrate the practice of chemical toxicological disaster to enhance capabilities of emergency response.
