Anesthesia Residency Program Goals

Following the guidelines established by Taiwan society of anesthesiologists, we offer a comprehensive residency training program. Our residents have the opportunity to work on many unique and complex clinical cases and engage in stimulating academic projects. Residents are expected to participate in safe, effective and compassionate patient care, develop a professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff. Besides, according to the core values of VGHTC(Compassion, Quality, and Integrity), our goals are not only to guide residents to be a well-trained perioperative physician but also to be a doctor with humanity.

Education & Didactic Series

Based on Taiwan society of anesthesiologists’ guidelines, The VGHTC anesthesiology residency program creates highly trained and qualified physician anesthesiologists(including the knowledge of nosocomial infection control, evidence-based medicine, healthcare quality, and professionalism). Our residents performed at least 160 cases of general anesthesia and 70 cases of regional block per year under the mentorship of world-class faculty and clinicians.

1st -year residency: general anesthesia and obstetric anesthesia

2nd & 3rd -year residency: general anesthesia, pediatric anesthesia, neuro anesthesia, and cardiothoracic anesthesia.
4th -year residency: subspecialties training, chief resident, executive and education.

Daily schedule of residents  

Morning meeting, case discussion, and journal reading

Operating room: 3 OR per person(2-week rotation) & Nurse Anesthetist training
Pain treatment clinic
Pre-anesthesia evaluation
Patient-controlled analgesia

Didactic Series for UGY& PGY

Education goals
1. Pre-anesthesia evaluation and risk assessment

2. The skills of general anesthesia, including airway management (bag-mask ventilation, endotracheal tube insertion, laryngeal mask placement), central venous catheter insertion, arterial line cannulation, and intravenous line setting 
3. Understanding clinical monitors of vital signs

4. Learning the peri-operative anesthesia care and basic pharmacology

5. Pain management and evaluation (Post-operative analgesia and pain treatment clinic)

6. Post-anesthesia follow-up, side effects, and complications
