HISTORY
Teaching and medical research are two major tasks of this hospital. The Section of Medical Research and the Section of Medical Education have been in operation since the opening of Veterans General Hospital, Taichung Branch on June 1, 1983. The chairmen of the Department of Surgery and Internal Medicine, Dr. Wang Pei-Yen and Dr. Yeh Chin-Lan, were asked to take charge of these two sections respectively. Construction on the five-story Research Building began in 1988, the same year this institution became an independent hospital. The Medical Research and Medical Education sections were officially upgraded to departments on July 1, 1989 and were merged into one department, the Department of Medical Education and Research, on May 1, 1994, under the leadership of the chairman of the Department of Medical Research.
With the organization transformation of the Executive Yuan, our hospital was reformed as Taichung Veterans General Hospital, starting from Nov.1 2013. And the Department of Medical Education and Research was divided into two independent departments: the Department of Medical Education and the Department of medical research.

ORGANIZATION CHART
There are three divisions in the Dept. of Medical Research: Div. of Basic Medical Science, Div. of Clinical Trial, Div. of Translational Medicine, staffing with expertise doctors, technicians, assistants, and physicians. They all devote themselves to the researches of basic medical science, and help the clinicians to engage in the fields of clinical pharmacology, various diseases, and biomedical science.
MISSIONS AND VISIONS
TCVGH has been certificated as “Public Research Institution” on Feb. 15, 2016.
There are a series of missions ahead of us. Such as: Innovances of Researches, Intergrations of Basic and Clinical Researches, Development of Translation Medicine, Step in the Global Research of Biotechnology of Medicine. To become an international outstanding hospital with the best services, excellent teaching & training of Innovation and Technology in medicine , strongest team of medical researches is always a great vision of TCVGH. And the Dept. of Medical Research occupies a siginant position of the hospital development. We all encourage ourselves :”Research will not be alone.
