Introduction

The Department of Otolaryngology at Taichung Veterans General Hospital is a tertiary referring center for head and neck neoplasm, including oral cavity cancer, nasopharyngeal cancer, laryngeal cancer, and hypopharyngeal cancer, that has served patients in central Taiwan for several decades. The Division of Rhinology has earned a reputation for excellence in endoscopic surgery for the treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis as well as electrocautery for chronic hypertrophic rhinitis. It is the only smell center certified by Ministry of Health and Welfare to examine and appraise olfactory disability, and is a well-known center in the field of cranio-facial aesthetic surgery such as rhinoplasty and septomeatoplasty. The Division of Otology offers a variety of otological procedures including otoplasty, tympanoplasty, mastoidectomy and removal of cerebellopontine angle tumor. It also provides counselling for patients with hearing problems who require a hearing aid as well as evaluation and rehabilitation for patients requiring a cochlear implant. Furthermore, we offer special clinics for voice, swallowing, sleep-disordered breathing surgery, middle ear, and vertigo, in addition to providing regular clinic services.
