Introduction
Department of Orthopedics, which was initially one division of the Department of Surgery, was founded in February, 2003.For improvement of quality of medical service, education, and research, there were some divisions of sub-special fields founded since 2007. Nowadays, there are six divisions and one laboratory in this department:

1.Division of Spinal Surgeries.
Division of Spinal Surgeries mainly deals with various diseases of spine, including spinal deformities, degenerative diseases, spinal trauma, and tumors.Every day, there are many surgeries, no matter open or minimal invasive surgeries (MIS), proceed for different patients. These surgeries mainly are percutaneous endoscopic lumbar decompression (PELD), open discectomy or laminotomy,  posterolateral fusion, anterior lumbar interbody fusion(ALIF), oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF), transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF), anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF), artificial disc replacement (ADR), laminoplasty, vertebroplasty or kyphoplasty. Besides, there are also surgeriesfor spinal deformities, including posterior column resection (PCO), pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO), or vertebral column resection (VCR).
We performed not only traditional or MIS surgeries, but also robotic assisted surgeries. We conducted Mazorrobotic spinal surgery systemin 2018. The first patient was successfully operated by Dr.Chung-Hung Lee, Chief of Department of Orthopedics, on May 3rd, 2018.This system assists surgeons to improve the accuracy of screw implantation, patients’ clinical outcomes and satisfaction.
There are also many spine educational courses held in this hospital every year. These activities include academic meetings, cadaver courses, case conferences, or forum for specific topics. There are many clinical fellows or spine surgeons attend our training fellowship programs or these activities. Division of Spinal surgeries becomes well-known at field of ALIF, OLIF, and robotic surgeries in Taiwan.

2.Division of Joint Reconstructions.
The Division of Joint Reconstructions mainly deals with the primary joint replacement surgeries of hips, knees, shoulders, and elbows, and the revision joint surgeries. Surgeries include hemiarthroplasty of shoulder, total shoulder replacement, reverse total shoulder replacement, total elbow replacement, bipolar hemiarthroplasty of hip, total hip arthroplasty, total knee arthroplasty, and uni-compartment knee arthroplasty.

3.Division of Fractures and Traumatology.
The Division of Fractures and Traumatology mainly treats various fractures and major trauma. Cooperated with trauma team members, surgeons of this division are expertise in treating pelvic fractures, acetabular fractures, articular or juxta-articular fractures, and multiple trauma.

4.Division of Musculoskeletal Diseases.
The Division of Musculoskeletal Diseases treats benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system. Multidisciplinary team work is the main principle in tumor treatment. Not only surgeons, but also physicians, nurses, pharmacists, physical therapists, social workers, etc., are included in this team. In additionto tumor resection, surgeons do many specific procedures such as limb salvage surgeries, custom-made tumor prosthesis replacement, and total spondylectomies.

5.Division of Sports Medicine.
The Division of Sports Medicine focuses on treatment of injuries related to sports and exercise, including tendon repair and ligament reconstruction. These surgeries include rotator cuff repair, reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), repair of meniscus repair, mosaicplasty for osteochondral dehiscence (OCD).

6.Division of hand and foot surgery
The Division ofhand and foot surgerydeal with diseases of foot, ankle, and handincluding congenital or acquired foot/ankle and hand/wrist deformity, degenerative disease, trauma and sport injury. These surgeries mainly arebunion surgery for hallux valgus, surgical correction for deformity of lessor toes, tailor bunion, flat foot and carvovarus foot, ligament repair or reconstruction, ankle or hindfoot arthrodesis, total ankle arthroplasty, Achilles tendon repair or reconstruction with tendon transfer, wrist arthroscopic surgeries, wide awake local anesthesia without tourniquet surgery, hand tendon repair or release, nerve repair and related surgeries for hand and wrist degenerative diseases.

7.Biomechanics Laboratory
This lab deal with biomechanics studies. Members in this lab are specialized in biomechanics modeling and 3D printing technique. By creating new model and technology, the lab members help surgeons to improve surgical concepts and techniques, develop up-to-date educational tools and programs, and publish many papers in fields of  both basic and clinical science.

For many years, we are always keeping cooperated with many domestic and foreign medical centers, hospitals, academic societies and institutes. The purpose is to improve our quality of patient treatment, medical education, and research. With all these efforts, our ultimate goal is to become the top medical center in Taiwan.
